University District (U/D) never falls short on fun, entertaining events, and this year, the U/D Block Party is making its third comeback as an annual community favourite.
University District is an award-winning community located west of the University of Calgary main campus. What started as empty endowment lands has now transformed into an active and vibrant community with a growing list of retail, offices, park spaces, cycling pathways, residential buildings, and most recently the Alt Hotel.
There’s a lot to celebrate — and the U/D Block Party is the best place to do it.

The U/D Block Party is a free community event that celebrates the neighbourhood’s growing Retail Main Street — the main corridor along University Avenue lined with over 30 beloved retailers like OEB Breakfast & Co., Fuwa Fuwa Japanese Pancakes, Village Ice Cream, The Canadian Brewhouse, The Banquet, Staples and Borough Bar + Grill. Lifestyle options including YYC Cycle, Bottoms Up Scrubs, Orange Theory Fitness, Clara Optometry, AdaptAbility and Cineplex VIP Cinemas are also among the growing list of offerings. Live Music from Brasstactics:
Brasstactics is a New Orleans-style brass band made up of 10 talented musicians. They describe their music as, “a crash course in human culture,” playing a range of tunes from AC/DC to Dr. Dre and funky throwbacks from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s.
