New Triathlon Series Set for B.C. and Alberta

There’s a new multisport race series coming to B.C. and Alberta this summer. The Three Lakes Triathlon Series will stage events in Sylvan Lake, Alta., Osoyoos, B.C. and Cultus Lake, B.C.

Veteran race organizer Steve Brown says the Three Lakes Triathlon Series will kick off this June with the Cultus Lake Loop Triathlon on June 14. The Osoyoos Lake Loop Triathlon is June 28 and the Sylvan Lake Loop Triathlon wraps up the series on July 19.

“The series will be based upon distances of 1K Swim, 60K Bike, 10K Run for a single loop and 2K Swim, 90K Bike, 20K Run for a double loop,” says Brown. “We are not concerning ourselves with exact distances based on traditional triathlons. We are going to work with what the local terrain offers us. You get to choose 1 or 2 loops depending on your fitness and experience level.”

Brown, founder and owner of Peach City Runners, owns ULTRA515, a three-day, multi-stage ultra-distance triathlon that has been taking place since 1993. He was also the race director for the Valley First Challenge Penticton this past summer.

“The immediate concern is to get athlete support for these races”, says Brown. “Both Osoyoos and Sylvan Lake had issues last year with the cancellation of their events last minute by the former organizer leaving athletes high and dry. In order to win back their confidence we are going to allow athletes that signed up for 2014 to race for free at our event in 2015.”

Registration opens November 10th for all three events which can be accessed by going to the series website www.threelakestriathlon.com.
