Are you satisfied with how your running shoe is performing? Are you looking for that edge in your sessions? Look no further. adidas’s Adizero Boston 13 will take your training to the next level.
Known for their innovative technology and advancement of the ‘speed’ shoe, adidas has launched version 13 of their iconic Boston line … and it does not disappoint. Since 1980 the Boston performance shoe has been the go-to model for runners that want to see results. From shaving off valuable seconds in a fartlek session or chasing a personal best in a 10-kilometre race, the Boston 13 has reached new heights in design while not compromising comfort.

Design and Features
Lightweight Upper
The lightweight engineered mesh upper complete with a padded tongue and collar provides a more comfortable secure fit than the Boston 12.
Lightstrike Pro Midsole
Lightstrike foam is a trademark of adidas design. It’s one of the lightest foams found in shoes yet has a dynamic response and a high energy return. The Lightstrike Pro midsole has 13.8 per cent more foam than its predecessor giving it lighter cushioning resulting in a comfortable and softer feel underfoot, that is so important in a performance shoe.
EnergyRods 2.0
Inserted into the Lightstrike Pro midsole are EnergyRods, a technology that is commonly found in the adidas Adizero line. These are five carbon composite bars, that mimic the metatarsal bones in the foot that not only supports the midsole but gives the boost the foot needs in the forefoot. More flexible than carbon plates, they propel the runner forward giving more energy return.
Lighttraxtion Outsole
A new feature for the Adizero Boston shoe is the Lighttraxion outsole featuring Continental™ rubber. When traction is so important Lighttraxion offers a firm grip and a slip-free toe off that helps prevent falls on damp surfaces This durable outsole makes the shoe perform well and efficiently in wet or dry conditions.
The new innovations in the Adizero Boston 13 were developed primarily from customer feedback.

“When creating the new Boston 13 model, we wanted to build the ultimate fast trainer,” says Charlotte Heidmann, Global Category Director Running Footwear at adidas. “We gathered athlete and consumer feedback from the Boston 12, which revealed that they wanted more comfort from the shoe— taking it back to the USP of the original Boston. The design and development of the new model was informed by these insights, with improvements made to the cushioning in the midsole and upper to provide a softer feeling for runners moving at speed.”
The Adizero Boston 13 is also environmentally friendly, featuring at least 20 per cent recycled materials. adidas states: “By reusing materials that have already been created, we help to reduce waste and our reliance on finite resources and reduce the footprint of the products we make.”

IMPACT teamed up with elite runners Rachael McIntosh and Matthew Travaglini and here’s what they had to say.
Former Team Canada heptathlete McIntosh got positive vibes from the shoe. “The Adidas Adizero Boston 13 is a great shoe for runners who prioritize speed, comfort, and versatility.” Now a fitness coach and ‘joyful’ runner, she found the shoe lightweight yet supportive. “It had no break-in period and was instantly a comfortable and smooth ride. The fit is true to size with just enough room for even a slightly wider foot. A great option for runners wanting a high-performance shoe that can do it all and look great while doing it!”
Travaglini also liked the shoe. “It was fast out of the gate; I could start quickly and settle into my pace without feeling like I was fighting against the shoe.” Travaglini is a multi-time individual and team national champion in races ranging from the track and to road, to cross country, with a 10-kilomtetre personal best of 29:35 and half-marathon time of 1:06:21. He found the Lightstrike Pro foam “highly responsive with good return on energy,” and coupled with the EnergyRods: “the shoe will last longer than just a standard high cushioned trainer.” He concludes: “This is a shoe that I will be adding to my rotation for interval and tempo workouts.”
