Champions Gain Entry to Canada’s Sports Hall

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame will induct a dozen new members in its Class of 2015.

The athletes being inducted are Paul Coffey (hockey), Susan Auch (speed skating), Craig Forrest (soccer), Jennifer Heil (freestyle skiing), Danielle Goyette (hockey), Nicolas Gill (judo), Michael Edgson (para-swimming), Lori-Ann Muenzer (track cycling), and Sharon and Shirley Firth (cross-country skiing).

“After receiving the call, I immediately went to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame website and was amazed to see how few people are actually in it,” says Auch. “Canada has had so many amazing athletes and with so few spots up for induction I feel fortunate to be chosen.”

Muenzer’s nomination feels special because it came from Samantha Mastel-Marr, a 13-year-old she coached. “That is indicative of the power of sport and how you really can change someone’s life,” she says. “Athletes don’t always think that they have a voice, but that is the power of what athletes can do.”

Auch, Muenzer and Heil have all been on the cover of IMPACT. The induction ceremony is Oct. 21 in Toronto.
